A conversation with Vera Petkovic, housekeeping manager at the Hotel Adler Asperg

Vera Petkovic comes from Bajina Basta, a small town under the slopes of the mountain on the banks of the Drina River in Serbia. She studied architecture at the University of Belgrade. She has lived in Germany since 1991. In 2003, she was hired as a chambermaid at the Hotel Adler Asperg. She is currently the housekeeping manager at the hotel and manages a team of seven employees.

What do you like most about your job?

I feel honoured to be part of the Hotel Adler Asperg team and to work with the Ottenbacher family. I am proud of my multinational team of seven chambermaids, ranging in age from 20 to 60, with whom I do daily, weekly and rotational cleaning. I like that no two days are the same.

How has your work changed over the years?

What hit us the hardest as chambermaids was the Corona pandemic. First came the room cancellations, then the events were cancelled and finally the hotel had to close. When we were allowed to open again, we had to adjust to disinfection, spacing and masks rules. It was a nightmare and I'm glad it's over.

What is your favourite room?

I don't really have a favourite room. I like all of them: our single and double rooms, the rooms with multiple beds and also our appartments.

In your opinion, what makes the Hotel Adler Asperg attractive for guests?

Everyone is welcome in our house and can feel at home. Here we combine tradition and modernity. Our hotel is suitable for business people, family celebrations and all kinds of travellers. The facilities are well maintained, we have a fantastic kitchen awarded with a Michelin star and the service is courteous and very friendly.
