In conversation with Yana Marina Joos, event manager at Adler Asperg
Mrs Joos has been a mainstay of the Adler Asperg event team for some time now and has a remarkable background in the hotel industry. Her passion for the hotel and event industry began in her childhood, when she regularly travelled to South Tyrol with her grandparents. Even then, she knew that she wanted to train as a hotel manager later on. After completing her technical college entrance qualification, she completed this at the nestor Hotel in Ludwigsburg, where she realised during her training that she particularly enjoyed the service and events departments.
After her training, Ms Joos gained valuable experience as an event coordinator at the Waldhotel Stuttgart, where she specialised in the events department. She later worked as a banquet supervisor at the Althoff Hotel Stuttgart. Her journey took her on to the Goldberg Restaurant in Fellbach, which she was able to accompany on its journey to its second star - a station she looks back on with particular fondness. However, as family plays a very important role in her life, she decided to focus on office work and event sales.
‘In Adler Asperg, I have found the perfect employer for me. Both areas of life can be combined very well here. I particularly appreciate the family atmosphere and the appreciation of my work.’ ~ Yana Marina Joos
In the interview, Mrs Joos gives exciting insights into her tasks and her enthusiasm for event planning. She tells us what makes the Adler Asperg so special for her and why weddings are a matter close to her heart.
What role do you play in the planning and realisation of events?
I make initial contact with customers to discuss their wishes and ideas for the event. I then make arrangements for the event and create customised offers that are tailored to the individual needs of our guests. I also set up the event in our hotel reservation system so that all relevant information is recorded correctly. Throughout the entire process, I am always available to customers as a contact person and ensure that every event is planned and executed smoothly.
What aspect of event planning fascinates you the most and are there certain event formats that are particularly close to your heart?
No two days are the same. Every event is unique and requires customised processing and support. The diversity makes it very exciting for me! Personally, I'm more interested in family events, especially weddings make my planning heart beat a little faster. That's why I also work part-time as a wedding planner.
What are the best moments for you at an event and what challenges do you often face in event planning?
I love the moment when you have been involved in the planning of the event from the very beginning and then look into the happy and satisfied eyes of the customer on the day of the event. It's especially nice when you receive confirmation that everything went smoothly.
Sometimes the customer's demands are a bit challenging, but that's how you learn to grow with your own tasks.
When friends or family ask you why a visit to the Adler Asperg is worthwhile - what do you say?
For me, the Adler is a place where I felt at home from the very first second. The family atmosphere and the warmth are paramount here. I think it's no secret that the Alder stands out above all for its outstanding cuisine. All four restaurants have a unique concept and are definitely worth a visit.
What do you like to do in your free time when you need a break from the hustle and bustle of events? Are there any points of contact in your free time with your job in the events department?
In my free time, I like to take a quiet moment to read a book. As my husband and I share a love of gastronomy, we also like to go out for a ‘good’ meal. Fine dining and Michelin-starred cuisine are a great passion of ours.
I love planning events and especially weddings. That's why I started my own business as a wedding planner.
Do you have a favourite location in the Adler that you particularly like to recommend for celebrations?
Personally, I particularly like the Schubart Saal. It's a wonderful place for family celebrations.
What are your hopes for the future of the events department at the Adler Asperg?
In addition to the high number of family celebrations, I hope that demand in the conference sector will increase again in the future and that we will be able to attract new companies as ‘permanent bookers’ with recurring modules.
We look forward to many more successful events and unforgettable moments for our guests.
