The Schubart Stube: a historical place with the best view of Asperg and the region
The history of Hohenasperg dates back to 750 BC. Back then until 400 BC, it was a supra-regionally important centre of early Celtic times. Romans, Germanic tribes, Franks, Austrians, Spaniards, Swedes and Frenchmen subsequently occupied the mountain and the fortress on it. In the 18th century, the castle was a garrison and a prison. During the 19th century it was a place of detention for revolutionaries. Today, Hohenasperg is a historical site, with impressive views of Asperg and the region, a museum and a socio-therapeutic institution. Hohenasperg has become a popular destination for excursions and hikes.
For several years now, the Ottenbacher family has been running the Schubart Stube on Hohenasperg, a restaurant offering Swabian cuisine, local beers and wines. With two different rooms on two different floors and a beer garden, the restaurant is suitable for parties and events such as weddings, summer festivals and company celebrations.
Julia Ade, restaurant manager at Schubartstube, says: "Guests love the view and the history of the place". The restaurant's menu consists of numerous regional dishes such as the "Swabian beef stew", salad of ham sausage and Emmental cheese, Swabian Rostbraten, Geschmälzte Maultaschen, Currywurst or Apfelküchle with cinnamon and sugar. There is a special selection of dishes for younger guests.
From May to October, the restaurant at Hohenasperg is open from Wednesday to Saturday from 17:00 to 23:00. On Sundays and public holidays, the Schubart Stube opens from 12:00 to 21:00. During the winter season it is open for our guests from Friday to Sunday and on public holidays.
Between 16 and 18 June, the Bergfest will take place for the second time in the Schubart Stube. Dicke Fische, Permanent Vacation and the Stadtkapelle Asperg will be playing live for the guests attending. We will see you there!
